Common Things

For My Daughter
I drove past a man with a python sunbathing around his neck.
I jumped a little,
Unsure if what I saw was real or somehow an imagination.
It seemed everyday and completely out of the ordinary at once.
I think that’s what scared me,
The extraordinary things we confuse as commonplace.
